Project managers sometimes fall
into the habit of 'reporting' what happened instead of leading the team to make
things happen. However, project managers rarely have any legitimate power and
must find other ways of influencing people to collaborate, perform, and
succeed. In this presentation Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald explains the various forms
of traditional and modern power and how project managers should and should not
use them. Kevin emphasizes the value of Referent Power for Project Managers and
provides specific advice on how to gain and use Referent Power. He then defines
traditional and modern forms of leadership, and the settings in which they
should and should not be used. Kevin then goes into more detail about transformational
leadership, the most appropriate form of leadership for project management.
