This session will explore the use of NotebookLM, Google’s AI-powered research and summarization tool, to
transform readings and lecture notes into dynamic podcasts and narrated-PowerPoint style videos. Attendees will
see how Notebook LM can ingest course content, such as PDFs, slide decks, or instructor notes, and generate
conversational audio summaries or visual media for students. We’ll discuss pedagogical advantages (like
multimodal content offerings), ethical considerations (AI transparency and authorship), and accessibility benefits
(auditory alternatives for students). This session will showcase examples produced for a journalism course during
the Fall 2025 semester.
During this active session, attendees will explore Google's NotebookLM, and using open resources, produce their
own podcasts and instructional videos.
By the end of this session, participants will leave with examples and
strategies for responsibly using NotebookLM to create engaging, human-centered academic media that align with
instructional goals.
